Sexual Problems
Sexual problems in both men and women are very common, but are often very difficult to talk about. Stress, anxiety, fear, guilt, and many other emotional and psychological issues can have a major effect on our sex lives, which in turn can have a detrimental effect on our relationships, that is why it is very important to get help when you can. Women tend to seek help more so than men, and that may be because they are more used to talking about feelings and personal issues than men are, but when you come for a consultation here you are guaranteed that all your problems are dealt with sensitively and with complete privacy.
Here are a few of the more common problems I see here at the Gloucestershire Hypnotherapy Clinic.
Impotence/Erectile Dysfunction
These terms refer to the man having difficulty getting or maintaining an erection during sex. Erectile problems can result in the man feeling inadequate and a failure as well as feeling frustrated, which undoubtedly will have an effect on his relationships and self-esteem. This type of problem is often considered to be a performance related anxiety, which is closely linked to social phobia or social anxiety.
Premature Ejaculation
Premature ejaculation or PE as its commonly known, is the experience of ejaculating too quickly or coming too quickly with minimal sexual stimulation.
This happens before the man wants it to and can happen before or during sex.
Problems with ejaculation are very common particularly among younger men and are often related to early embarrassing or humiliating experiences . As with impotence, PE is closely related to social phobia or social anxiety.
Vaginismus/Fear of penetration
This is where the muscles around the vagina involuntarily contract making sex difficult, painful and often impossible. It can also effect any examination where penetration is necessary, such as cervical smear tests and other medical interventions. It is often considered that women with this problem don’t want to have sex but that is just not true. It can lead to feelings of inadequacy, frustration and guilt, having a detrimental effect on her confidence, self-esteem and her relationships.
Frigidity
Frigidity is basically when a person, male or female, has lost desire or interest in sex or has a fear of being intimate with anyone. They avoid sex, avoid sexual thoughts, have a low sex drive and generally have no interest in being sexual at all. This clearly can have an effect if the person is already in a relationship and also can be difficult in starting new relationships. This can result in the person feeling guilty or ashamed, or feelings of frustration on both sides.
All of the above problems generally have an emotional or psychological cause.
All sexual problems respond very well to hypnotherapy treatment, in particular, Pure Hypno-Analysis, which releases the bottled up emotions causing these type of problems.
