Every phobia, regardless of what form it takes, is an irrational fear, its not logical.  It is something inside us, but beyond our own control.  We develop phobias so that we can avoid anxious situations. Every person who has a phobia of some description already has an inner anxiety, a formless, timeless, unknown anxiety and we need to attach that anxiety to something so that we can avoid it.

Phobias are not about spiders, water, open spaces, heights, flying or anything else, phobias are formed in order for us to avoid our own anxiety that we have had inside us for many years.  The anxiety we already feel would have been caused by an emotional event, normally from childhood, so when we develop a phobia, our psyche is telling our subconscious mind not to get into that anxious, emotional situation again, so we can choose to avoid that feeling.  Phobias may not surface for many years, but phobias itself are an indication of internal anxiety.

Phobias are fuelled by strong emotions, and are all about us feeling out of control, feeling anxious and fearful, and not being able to cope with it.  Phobias are rarely about the object or situation that we fear most.

When treating phobias, it is very important to find out the cause of your internal anxiety and why you are feeling out of control. Many other clinical hypnotherapists would use suggestion therapy or clinical hypnosis in order to treat phobias (which I can also do for you), but this is a short term fix, what I call ' sticking plaster therapy'. It will only control the symptoms of the phobia for a short time or until ' symptom substitution' happens where the phobia may disappear but the internal anxiety will then find another outlet to express itself.  For example, another type of phobia may develop or you may start binge eating, you may start to smoke or drink more or perhaps even develop physical symptoms.

The only way to permanently get rid of your fear or phobia is to go back and find the experiences and emotions that have caused the internal anxiety to begin with.  The only way of doing this naturally and safely, is with pure hypno-analysis.

Some common phobias:

Fear of flying (Aviatophobia)
• Fear of being judged (Social Phobia)
• Fear of spiders (Arachnophobia)
• Fear of heights (Acrophobia)
• Fear of enclosed spaces (Claustrophobia)

Anxiety and panic attacks

Everyone has experienced anxiety at some point in their lives.  Anxiety is able to alert us to dangerous situations, it allows us to keep ourselves safe and aware of situations that we find ourselves in.  Anxiety can strike at any time, and for most people it is temporary and will go away once that particular situation is over.

Anxiety is a timeless, formless, feeling that can occur at any time.  It is a fear of the unknown.  Many people who experience anxiety on a regular basis will tell you that they have no idea why they are feeling this way but they have an overwhelming fear that something bad will happen.  This isn't just being negative or pessimistic, this is an actual unknown fear that can take over.  It is a feeling of being out of control. If we knew why we were feeling anxious, we just wouldn't feel anxious anymore, we could rationalise it.
